For over a decade, interactive media has been split between high-latency, massive-scale HTTP streaming (DASH/HLS) and sub-second, non-scalable WebRTC. Emerging applications, such as live esports, interactive broadcasting and cloud rendering, demand both sub-second latency and Internet-scale reach, a balance existing solutions fail to deliver.
Media over QUIC Transport (MOQT), currently being standardized by the IETF, bridges this gap. Built on QUIC (RFC 9000), MOQT leverages stream multiplexing, custom congestion control and flexible reliability to provide a unified, lightweight and scalable architecture for both ingest and distribution across browser and native environments. This lecture explores MOQT's architecture, object model and publish/subscribe paradigms. Attendees will understand the core bottlenecks of WebRTC and DASH/HLS, see how MOQT achieves scalable sub-second latency over unpredictable networks and leave with a practical roadmap for the future of global media transport.
Ali C. Begen is a computer science professor at Ozyegin University in Istanbul and the founder of Networked Media, an innovation and engineering studio specializing in IP video technologies. Through this venture, he provides expert insights and cutting-edge solutions to media-tech companies and law firms worldwide. He currently serves as an elected member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), guiding the technical evolution of the Internet. Previously a technical lead at Cisco in San Jose, California, Begen holds a PhD from Georgia Tech and over 40 US patents. His work has earned him numerous academic and industry honors, including an Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering.
